Zach Eflin entered the 2024 MLB season pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays.  He was signed by the franchise last season to a three-year, $40 million contract, the largest free agent deal in Rays history.  Eflin made a team-leading and career-high 31 starts in his first season with the Rays while setting career bests in wins (16), innings pitched (177.2) and strikeouts (186).  He posted his lowest ERA (3.50) and WHIP (1.02) of his career.

Eflin has had some solid performances his last few starts but hasn't had a win in his last three starts.

This day he faces the downtrodden Chicago White Sox.  Of course, Eflin and the Rays are big favorites, too big to really back at -218.  Some might argue this is an absolute steal against the White Sox and a solid pitcher due like Eflin.

The total has moved from 8.5 to 7.5 and we'd probably be all over the under if it weren't for the White Sox.

Granted Tampa Bay's offense hasn't been the best. Randy Arozarena and Yandy Diaz, in particular, have been off to subpar starts to the season.

Where Eflin has value is with fantasy sports leagues.  ESPN notes, since the beginning of last season, his 472 fantasy points are 10th-best among starting pitchers.  Yet he's the red-headed stepchild in the fantasy leagues.

12 other active pitchers who have made at least as many as his 35 starts during that time are rostered in a greater percentage of ESPN leagues.

Zach Eflin (1-2) took the loss against the Angels on April 8, allowing five runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out five batters over five innings.

He was favored to have under 6.5 strikeouts against the Los Angeles Angels this day at -150.  His hits allowed total was set at over 4.5.

Taylor Ward is 4-for-6 against Eflin while Anthony Rendon is 7-for-18 but currently owns a .232 ERA compared to Ward's .306 ERA.

Player prop bets for the opposing starting pitcher, Patrick Sandoval, had the under set 4.5.
